How To Reach Out To People You’d Like To Work With

This question has come up a lot in the Academy Foundation this week.

Here is my answer.

1 - NO COOKIE CUTTER APPROACH

There are as many ways to connect with someone as they are people. Adapt your communication style to the person in front of you

2 - DON’T THINK OF PEOPLE (plural) THINK OF SOMEONE (singular)

Start with one person. Success is built one person at a time. Make one person happy today.

3 - GIFT + OFFER OF SERVICE

Have ALL of your communication be of value to the person who receives it. If you’re just checking in or simply ‘getting in touch’ you’ll loose their interest from the get go.

Put some work in.

Really think about that person.

Send them a gift (free resource created by you or someone else).

And offer to help them with something specific.

Ask them to send you an email if they’d like to work with you on that.

4 - SLOW DOWN

Don’t try to ‘GET’ them.

Wait for them to get back to you before you suggest a time to speak.

The more relaxed you are, the better.

They will feel it if you are in a state of stress or neediness.

My mentor Steve Chandler said it a thousand times...NEEDY IS CREEPY!

I hope this inspires you to connect with people more powerfully, with more professionalism and dignity.
