Do You Have Too Many Talents?
Do you have too many talents?
Are you paralysed by how good you are? Do you have so many skills and gifts that you don’t know which one you are supposed to showcase to the world?
I spoke to a woman recently who is beautiful, intelligent, funny, academic and personable. She is a good mother, a good wife and she can play instruments. You get the gist. She is a phenomenal multi-passionate woman. And yet, she is paralysed by fear. Not so much the fear that she might not be good enough to fulfill her dreams, but the fear that she is too damn good.
Marianne Williamson, one of the most influential women of this century, explains:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us.”
So what about you? Are you a multi-passionate woman? Do you play it down to avoid intimidating other people?
I know I did. Coming from a mixed-raced background meant that I was exposed to a very diverse mix of cultures. I remember feeling confused as a young woman that I could dance ballet, street dance, I was good at Maths…and swearing, I could sing pop music, I played classical piano, I was a university student and a devoted Rastawoman.
Boy! What a mix of talents and personality traits! I didn’t know what to do with it. At least not until I learnt to integrate all of me into my being. I decided it was ok to be a walking contradiction. I decided it was ok to be a professional psychotherapist in the daytime and sing Beyonce with my kids in the evening.
In fact, I would argue that the fastest way to build up your business and attract your ideal clients is to be yourself. All of yourself. Integrate those quirky traits of yours into your brand. Why wouldn’t you?
